When you think of Audrey Hepburn, what comes to mind? Her beauty, elegance, poise, style? How about her heart, passion, and humanitarianism? She was certainly more than a pretty starlet or Hollywood icon, she had a genuine care for others and embraced the simple things in life. She was a true humanitarian and role model who undoubtedly made her mark on this world. While she has left this world, her life story and words remain as lovely morsels of wisdom for those of us who want to live life simply and to its fullest. In honor of a beautiful life, I would like to share with you some of her timeless wisdom. Happy Birthday Audrey, may your legacy live on!
Life Lessons from Audrey Hepburn…
For all the ladies out there who struggle with their body image; who are bombarded by the fabricated, over-sexualized images of women that lurk everywhere today and feel they don’t measure up when they look in the mirror. We’ve all been there, but you are beautiful and captivating just the way you are! And a side note for the guys on this one – find the lady you love and love her shamelessly for exactly who she is because life is too precious to live by someone else’s idea of beauty. Audrey knew that a woman was more than her body; true beauty is so much more than the magazines and images of today would have us believe…
Audrey on Beauty…
“There is more to sex appeal than just measurements. I don’t need a bedroom to prove my womanliness. I can convey just as much sex appeal picking apples off a tree or standing in the rain.”
“The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole, but true beauty in a Woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she knows.”
“The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides.”
For all my fellow go-getters out there; you want to grab life by the horns and milk it for all it is worth. You yearn to experience new things, see all there is to see, and live out the grand adventure that your life was always meant to be. Jump in head first and live each moment of your life as though there are no second chances! Audrey knew that getting to where you want to be meant diving into life and pushing yourself to go when your heart says “yes, I want this”!
Audrey on Opportunity…
“I’ve been lucky. Opportunities don’t often come along. So, when they do, you have to grab them.”
“I have learnt how to live…how to be in the world and of the world, and not just to stand aside and watch.”
“I tried always to do better: saw always a little further. I tried to stretch myself.”
For us odd-balls who walk to the beat of our own drum; you may not be sure why, but you always felt like the punchline of “one of these things is not like the other”. You looked different, thought different, spoke different than the usual crowd. I hope I am not the first to tell you that you are awesome! Your individuality is what keeps this world interesting, so keep on doing your thing. Audrey knew the importance and freedom of just being you and loving each other for who we are!
Audrey on being true to yourself…
“Why change? Everyone has his own style. When you have found it, you should stick to it.”
“I love people who make me laugh. I honestly think it’s the thing I like most, to laugh. It cures a multitude of ills. It’s probably the most important thing in a person.”
“People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed; never throw out anyone.”
“I never think of myself as an icon. What is in other people’s minds is not in my mind. I just do my thing.”
For my dreamers; when we dream, we go big or go home. Nothing seems impossible to us, despite what all those more grounded folks seem to tell us. Well, you keep on dreaming, and the bigger the bigger! Innovation doesn’t come from people who think inside the box. Your thoughts and ambitions are what builds better tomorrows. So if you want something, don’t be afraid to want it with all your heart. Audrey knew that there was no limit but the ones we place on ourselves…
“Anyone who does not believe in miracles is not a realist.”
“If I’m honest I have to tell you I still read fairy-tales and I like them best of all.”
“I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.”
“Nothing is impossible, the word itself says ‘I’m possible’!”
And finally for all of us; no matter what we look like on the outside or who were are on the inside we are all here to do one thing…your life’s purpose is to find and follow your bliss. Be kind, love others, and do what makes you happy…
Audrey on Life Purpose…
For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.
The most important thing is to enjoy your life – to be happy – it’s all that matters.
